How to Tell if Eggs Are Bad: The Float Test and Other Checks
Crack the egg into a bowl and smell it: a bad egg has an unmistakable sulphur smell. The float test shows age, not safety: fresh eggs sink, old eggs stand up, and eggs that float are very old. Refrigerated eggs usually keep 3 to 5 weeks.
